Alois is an electrical engineer specializing in hardware and system integration. He has previously worked at cryptocurrency firm Bitsoko limited, pushing the limits of hardware and it’s integration to ethereum. Alois works for EED’s subsidiary KAIOTE LTD where he is involved in the design of hardware/software strategies to digitally characterize exposure to household air pollution from cooking technologies in low income households, as well as creation of sensing technologies that span energy and water. He is a member of the International Development Innovation Network(IDIN) and holds a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Nairobi (Kenya).
Beryl has worked on various projects spanning energy access and policy, climate change, renewable energy and natural resource management. Among others, Beryl has supported the: baseline study for the clean cooking sector in Kenya; evaluation of Lighting Africa Kenya II programme in Kenya that was aimed at increasing last mile penetration of solar products in Kenya; development of the GIZ policy brief that was targeted at promoting private sector participation in energy distribution in Kenya; conducting a deep-dive analysis of Kenya on Readiness for Investment in Sustainable Energy (RISE), a project by the World Bank focusing on policy makers and whose objective was to create an attractive environment for investment in sustainable energy. In collaboration with the Energy Research Centre of Netherlands she conducted a baseline for energy access in Kenya and calculated the GHG emissions in the designing of a biogas NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions) aimed at accelerating uptake of clean sources of energy at household levels on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. Beryl has also worked with the Forest Dialogue, a US based organization that uses multi-stakeholder engagements as a channel for environmental conservation where she was involved in reporting for Land Use Dialogues in Tanzania and in facilitating stakeholder discussions. She holds a BSc in Environmental and Bio-systems engineering from the University of Nairobi (Kenya), and master’s in environmental management from Yale University (US).
Brian is a Senior Associate Manager at EED Advisory with varied experience in managing project resources and logistics. Brian has, among other, managed the countrywide World Bank multi-tier framework household survey which involved administering interviews to over 6,000 households in all the 47 counties of Kenya, and the enterprise energy survey targeting over 1000 enterprises spread across 15 large towns in Kenya. He has also been involved in other assignments including: managing a market assessment for the potential uptake of a 10kW biomass system around biomass laden parts of the country; providing technical support for IFC Power Diagnostic Services (PDS) tool; providing consultancy services for the energy audit of 38 Chase Bank branches and 19 branches for Rafiki Microfinance Bank with the intention of identifying energy efficiency and conservation opportunities; providing technical support to DANIDA to enable investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy in Kenya in partnership with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM). Brian holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya).
Catherine Abisaki manages all administrative tasks at EED including record keeping, resource allocation, operations reporting, coordination of meetings, development and oversight of office processes, petty cash management and reconciliation, among others. She is conversant with several business operation software such as Replicon©, a cloud-based time tracking application that allows for optimized client billing. Before joining EED, she worked as an Assistant Accountant and a Data Manager for various local studies of the University of Washington – Global Assistance Program (UW- GAP) Kenya. Catherine has obtained her professional accounting qualification (CPA-6) from Strathmore University and is currently pursuing a short course on Business Management at Strathmore University.
Clara is a mechatronic engineer who has varied experience and interest in design, prototyping and development of robotic systems. She has worked with Robomaker Limited, Bamburi Cement and Com21 Limited. She also has practical experience in project management having managed the deployment of digital learning equipment to over 4,000 primary schools across 10 counties in Kenya under the presidential digital literacy program. Clara is a co-founder of Kids Comp Camp – which is an organization that seeks to spread digital literacy in marginalized areas. She describes herself as having a public-sector heart and a private sector mind and is currently delivering projects spanning both sectors. Clara holds a BSc degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya).
Edith has a wealth of experience in natural resource management, environmental policy planning, environmental assessments and carbon asset management. She is a seasoned consultant and has held senior management positions at Camco Clean Energy, NIRAS consulting and the Ecotourism Society of Kenya. Edith is a pioneer in environmental policy planning for private sector agro-processors having managed the environment portfolio for a large horticultural organization with over 10,000 employees. She is a Chevening Scholar, holds a BA in Geography from Baraton University (Kenya), a Masters in Water and Environmental Management from Loughborough University (UK) and is trained in applied environmental economics at the Imperial College London (UK)
Elizabeth Ngala is a Certified Public Accountant with over 10 years of experience in Financial Management, Accounting and Auditing. Elizabeth is the Finance Manager at EED Advisory. Her role comprises of the management of all financial processes including the collection, analysis and interpretation of financial data to provide strategic recommendations on the best business practices to be employed; procurement management; financial contract management; banking and cash flow management; business tax computations and legal compliance oversight; financial risk analysis on cash flow and cash constraints among others. Elizabeth is detail oriented and has a strong understanding of financial and legal principles as they relate to business operations. Prior to her current role as a financial consultant, Elizabeth was Head of Finance at Horizon Africa Capital Limited and a Senior Legal Accountant at Anjarwalla & Khanna Advocates (Africa Legal Network) where her role in the company grew from that of a Legal Accountant and Assistant Accountant. Elizabeth obtained her professional accounting qualification (CPA) from Strathmore University.
Ida is a WASH specialist with a keen interest in water access issues for unserved and underserved populations. She has been involved in several assignments at EED Advisory including: leading the implementation of a customer satisfaction survey and development of a service delivery charter for Homabay County Water and Sanitation Company and Nanyuki Water and Sewerage Company with support from the Kenya Water and Sanitation Network; managed the Kenya Markets Trust supported assessment of climate change adaptability levels at 30 selected water utilities and projects across the 13 counties; managed the UNICEF supported evaluation of solar powered water supply systems in Somalia; and managed the Food for the Hungry Kenya supported documentation of viability and scalability of pre-paid water meters for communal water access in Kenya, among others. Prior to joining EED Advisory, Ida was a Project Coordinator at the Global Environment and Technology Foundation in Arlington (VA, USA) where she contributed to the management of Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN), The Coca-Cola Foundation’s signature project to improve access to clean water and sanitation for 6 million Africans by 2020. Ida holds an MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management from University of Oxford (UK).
June is a Water Engineer by profession and is interested in the enhancement of water supply coverage across Kenya and other developing countries. She has worked in programs targeting the improvement of water utilities and was part of a team addressing non-revenue water management and financial viability for 10 water service providers in Kenya. She was also part of a consulting team involved in a ‘Water Sector Reform Program’ under the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and WaSReB. The program involved the review and revision of Kenya Water Utility boundaries. June provided expertise in data collection and development of map products and spatial databases for 40 utilities. June has practical experience in Geographical Information Systems and is an advanced user of ESRI ARC GIS. She holds a BSc. Degree in Soil, Water and Environmental Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology(JKUAT) and is a member of the International Water Association.
Martin Kitetu is an energy expert having provided insights in energy audits, feasibility studies, demand assessments and organizational carbon foot-printing. At EED, he has been involved in the formulation of the KCB climate change strategy on carbon neutrality with respect to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI). He is also part of a consortium which is developing a mini-grid rollout plan and feasibility studies of 20 potential mini-grid sites in Rwanda for the Energy Development Corporation Limited (EDCL). Martin is currently the project manager at KAIOTE LTD, a subsidiary of EED advisory involved in developing innovative solutions for challenges in energy, water management and climate change using Internet-of-things (IOT) technologies. His current roles include; overseeing the implementation of an autonomous water metering and billing system at Malindi Water and Sewerage Company (MAWASCO) and developing an air-quality monitoring system in collaboration with @iLab for real-time monitoring in Nairobi. Prior to joining EED Advisory, Martin worked in Spin Knit Ltd as a mechatronic engineer, taking part in maintenance of plant machinery, and the planning and implementation of energy conservation measures. Martin holds a BSc. Mechatronic Engineering specializing in control engineering and is a certified energy auditor from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
Michael specializes in the use of GIS and Remote Sensing to provide insights in energy demand assessment for grid and off-grid markets and assessing water and sanitation access through cross tabulation of demographics data, water infrastructure and water resources data among other datasets. At EED Advisory Ltd, Michael has been involved in the development of an interactive GIS web portal where users can assess the suitability of an area for the installation of solar powered irrigation systems. Michael also supported the development of a spatial based national sampling frame for the nationwide MTF Energy Survey in Kenya in conjunction with associates from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). He is currently supporting the World Resources Institute (WRI) in the development of the Energy Access Explorer which is an open, interactive, online mapping platform to help accelerate energy access in unserved and underserved areas. Prior to joining EED, Michael was a GIS consultant for the GIZ/WASREB supported “Water Sector Reforms Program” involved in reviewing and revising of service area boundaries for water utilities across Kenya. He has worked for the Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council (KENTTEC), Kenya Wildlife Service and the Department of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing (DRSRS). He holds a BSc. Environmental Planning and Management from Kenyatta University and is an EIA associate expert registered by NEMA.
Murefu is an experienced development consultant with a focus on energy access. Previous, he was the operations manager at Camco Clean Energy (Nairobi) and has also worked with the African Development Bank (Tunis) and Practical Action (Nairobi). Murefu has led several consulting assignments across ten countries while collaborating with partners and clients spanning both the private and public sector. These include the World Bank Group, UN agencies, Government agencies, research institutions and various private companies. Some of Murefu’s specialities include renewable energy resource assessments; energy demand studies; decentralized and distributed systems (mini-grids and stand-alone systems) design optimization; energy project finance; renewable energy policy and planning; carbon accounting and; international climate change policy. He is also an active participant in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations and has a wealth of knowledge on climate finance, clean development mechanism (CDM) and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA). Murefu holds a certificate in Project Risk Appraisal from the University of Bradford University (UK), BSc in Environmental Studies from Kenyatta University (Kenya) and a Masters in Environmental Science from Yale University (USA). He is a Compton fellow and an Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED) scholar. Murefu is the Managing Partner at EED Advisory.
Njeri Kara is an electrical and electronics engineer with an interest in energy systems. She has had training in solar system design and installation from Strathmore Energy Research Center (SERC) and Power Technics and has worked in a team to deploy a solar system at Kasiluni primary school in Kitui County. Njeri has also worked on a project on the design of solar energy solution and payback scheme for households in Kenya, which she presented in the proceedings of the 2015 Sustainable Research and Innovation (SRI) Conference, Kenya School of Monetary Studies, May 2015, ISSN: 2079-6226. Njeri has previous work experience from Safaricom Limited, the Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya Power Limited and the start-up BRCK. Njeri holds a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and is currently pursuing a Masters in Environmental Management at Duke University (USA).
Ruth is trained in Sustainable Environmental Management. She has provided technical support for various projects at EED Advisor including: managing the clean cooking study in Kenya aimed at establishing the status of clean and efficient cooking (stoves and fuels) adoption and market trends; part of the team carrying out a solar water heating study in Kenya for the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). This included a technical review installed systems and recommendations on possible future technology options. Ruth has also supported the implementation of the nationwide Multi-Tier Framework Energy Household Energy Access survey for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum with support from the World Bank. She was also part of the team conducting a feasibility study on improved cooking solutions in informal settlements in Nairobi for SNV and a team member for the biomass availability assessment for the manufacture of briquettes for Rainforest Alliance. Before joining EED, she worked with Indigenous Information Networks (IIN), Kenya Water Towers Agency and Kenya Meteorological Department. She holds a degree in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University and a Masters degree in Sustainable Environmental Management from the University of Greenwich UK.
Adams is a telecommunication and information engineer specialized in software integrations. He has worked as a software engineer for Directcore Technologies, an end-to-end Integrated IT solutions provider specializing in IT & telecoms products, solutions and services cutting across various market verticals in Africa, his role involved USSD, SMS, payments (mobile money and card) and network integrations. Adams works for EED’s subsidiary KAIOTE LTD where he is involved in the design of IoT management platforms and subsequent integration to LPWANs (Low Power Wide Area Networks), to provide analyzed data for day to day business processes. Adams holds a BSc degree in Telecommunication and Information Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya).
